FIVE CONSIDERATIONS WHEN MOVING FROM THE EAST COAST TO THE WEST COAST

Many “downsizing” baby boomers are choosing to move from the East Coast, as they retire. Primarily, this decision is based on being near their adult children and grandchildren. Basically, “Silicon Valley” now stretches from Seattle, WA all the way to San Diego, CA and, many techies migrated to the West Coast for well-paying jobs and great careers. Getting an entire household of furnishings from the East Coast to the West Coast is rather expensive, if done professionally. Here are (5) things to consider before boking a moving company:
Not all East Coast to West Coast moving companies are the same. Most small companies are part of a larger national chain and basically broker the job through a series of commissioned and compensated sales brokers. The smooth talking representative that “surveys” your home is almost always a commissioned sales person who only gets paid if he books the moving job.
What seems to be a “too good to be true” price “guarantee” is ALWAYS just that…not true. A cheap price is never, ever a good thing to consider when choosing to move from the east coast to the west coast. It will always, 100% guarantee, end up in total disaster. In my 30 years in the industry I have never heard of a “cheap” East to West Coast move going smoothly!!
Always get several recommendations when moving from THE East Coast to the West Coast. When something goes wrong with your move and, it invariably will, being 3000 miles away from the company you “thought” was reputable, is NOT going to be of much help.
Keep your valuables with you.
Often, there are several households on a large semi-truck, when moving from the east coast to the west coast. There will be multiple stops and other pick-ups along the way, all of which lend opportunity for certain things to go “missing”. Its’ one thing if it’s the living room sofa but, totally different if it is your prized Star Wars collection that you’ve had since 10 years old!
Consider using an “exclusive” move. There are so many things that can go wrong with a 3000 mile East coast to West coast move: delay in the pick-up, lost items, major delays in the delivery and, unforeseen “hidden” costs (us reputable movers call it “extortion). An exclusive move usually is with a boutique company, like William C Huff Company, that may only be transporting just your items. This means there is much more accountability for having a “stress-free” move.
William C. Huff Companies is committed to simplifying the complicated maze of moving and storing your priceless possessions.
