Ask any established design company what it means to have professional receiving and they can all tell you exactly what it “isn’t” because, honestly, professional receiving is not something that most receiving companies offer. Since the William C Huff White Glove Moving and Storage Company has been involved with receiving furnishings for designers around the globe, for about 10 years now, we have come to realize that many “designer receiving companies” have very little professionalism in how they handle their designer’s valuable furnishings. In fact, we have had to “train” many designers into accepting that we do what they ask us to do, when receiving, storing, and delivering their homeowners’ furnishings.

Here’s what professional receiving should look like:

  1. Experience – There is no substitute for experience, when it comes to the type of details which need to be adhered to when receiving for designers. A professional “receiver” is not someone who is new to the job. It takes time, training, and lots of experience to be considered “professional”, when it comes to receiving. Being able to spot a defect, a damage or even the wrong shade of a particular color, is essential to being considered a professional, in the receiving environment. Often, the relationship with the designer and the receiver is so tight that the receiver knows exactly what the design companies’ level of acceptance is for blemishes, imperfections, and damages. A professional receiving company often will help with suitable remedies to keep the flow moving for the designer, making their job much less stressful.
  2. Details, details, details- This is 100% a personality trait that is necessary to be a professional receiver. The individual(s) must have a pre-disposition to making sure the details are followed through on for every aspect of receiving. The wrong personality (like yours’ truly) would be disastrous and would never be considered professional.

  3. Communication – Professional receiving requires precise communication. Long, generalized statements regarding any issues with receiving are not professional. Communicating the right things to the right people is paramount to ensuring that professionalism is maintained throughout the receiving process.

Currently the most senior members of the William C Huff White Glove Moving and Storage Company (and White Glove Receiving and Storage/installations) are who maintain and inspect all items coming into our warehouses. Experience, attention to details and an ability to clearly communicate is the number one reason that several of the top design firms in the US chose our services over others.
