At the William C Huff White Glove Moving and Storage Company, there has always been a culture centered around having fun. Let’s face it: moving is the fourth most stressful thing a homeowner will deal with. The top three most stressful experiences, in order are: death of a loved one, divorce, and loss of a job. The truth is, most people will need to move as a result of any of the top three most stressful events in life. Sometimes two of those top three have caused a need to move, making the move very stressful.

One way to cope with the daily stress our staff works with is to find ways to make coming to work fun. Themes have developed over the years which give staff members some levity, amidst the stress of the job. Music, food, pyrotechnics and freefalls are some of the popular themes which have become part of the culture. Whether it is “Taco Tuesday”, “Techno Thursday, or “Freefall Friday”, many of the staff have come to look forward to the fun and frivolity which surround these popular themes.

Of course, there are certain staff members who like to take “having fun” to whole new levels. Mitch Elfreth, a long term (20+ years) staff member, has taken his passion for holiday themed events to whole new levels.

Mitch, a self-admitted “kid-at-heart” loves Christmas and Halloween. His fascination with lights at Christmas once led him to decorate one of our large tractor trailers with more than 25,000 Christmas lights and then enter the annual night-time Festival of Lights parade, honoring Thomas Edison’s invention of the light bulb. His passion got the company a first place award for “most lights on a float.”  One year a 30 foot Christmas tree, complete with foil-wrapped 7 foot by 7 foot gifts under it, was attached to the top of our warehouse. People could see this display from the entire industrial park.

Mitch’s true passion, however, is Halloween. He loves going to haunted houses and corn maze spook walks. This passion led him to create one of our most memorable William C Huff themed events. When he decided to marry the love of his life, Kris, he insisted on having a Halloween wedding, right here in one of our William C Huff warehousing facilities.

What started out as a Halloween themed party, quickly became the horror maze walk that would be permanently be etched in the memories of all who attended his wedding. All guests entered through a side door of our older, concrete block building, which is sectioned off with about 4 rows of aisles with dozens of 10 foot by 15 foot storage lockers on either side. Attendees needed to carefully walk up and down these dark, narrow aisles with fog and lasers all around. Creatures would suddenly pop out with grizzly masks and costumes, all while spooky screams and noises blared through the massive speaker system.

Once guests had successfully navigated the maze of horror, they entered our main warehouse receiving area where food, entertainment and ghostly figures were abundant. A live, ghoulish band played creepy music, and in the middle of the festivities, the grim reaper pronounced Mitch and Kris husband and wife.

This event was several years ago but, it still reigns as the all-time winner of William C Huff themed fun times. We all now have a shared passion for Halloween at William C Huff.
